Mission
Health In Action (HIA) will be the premier source of information on health promotion, injury prevention and population health for practitioners in Alberta.

Vision
Providing an interactive web site and associated service which support Alberta practitioners in the areas of health promotion, injury prevention and population health.

Health In Action was created in response to the expressed needs of health promotion and injury prevention practitioners, program planners, funders and researchers in Alberta for an easy to use, yet comprehensive directory of health promotion and injury prevention programs, projects, and resources in the province of Alberta.

As Health In Action moved from its original role of serving as a clearinghouse for this type of information, to presenting more selective, well vetted web site content, selection criteria was developed that presented a series of questions that resources and web links would be measured against to determine if they represent appropriate content and quality suitable for the purpose and standard of Health in Action. Health In Action (HIA) is a unique resource. This web site gives you immediate access to information, people, programs and resources needed to make your health promotion and injury prevention programs and research more effective.

Here are just some of the ways that Health In Action can increase the effectiveness of your health promotion and injury prevention programs and projects:

• Expand your network by connecting with other health promotion and injury prevention practitioners and researchers across Alberta;
  
• Shake that "am I reinventing the wheel?" feeling before you invest a lot of time and dollars by searching for similar programs or research projects, quickly and easily, from you own home or office computer;
  
• Connect with other people or organizations that are interested in developing a new program or initiative on the same or similar issue;
  
• Learn from and build on the experiences of others - both their successes and failures;
  
• Share your program or research experiences with others and get valuable feedback from your peers;
  
• Discuss ideas and review current programs with your peers.
  

The value of Health In Action lies not in its individual products but in the people who contribute to the database, participate in listservs and use the contact information to keep abreast of what's going on in Alberta. The more you use Health In Action, the more benefits you will gain.
